Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Frederick Wells on March 20th, 2020. He passed away peacefully at home with his family around him.
James was born to Ward and Hanna Wells in Little Burnt Bay, Newfoundland on December 19th,1945.

James, more affectionately known as Jim, will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years Sharon Wells (nee Murphy). They were married in Toronto on March 26, 1968 and soon after had 4 wonderful children.

He will be sadly missed by many, including his children, Brenda Potton ( Mike Potton), Lori Anne Wells ( Scott Atkins), Nicole Powell (Shane Powell) and Steven Wells ( Geneviève Wells). He was adored by his 7 Grandchildren Cordelle Wells-Collins, Lucas Wells, Michael Potton, Carissa Potton, Alora Powell, Robyn Powell and Delaney Powell. They'll miss their Poppy’s jokes and even his scruffy moustache kisses. He is survived by his siblings Marie Squires (late Burt), Charles Wells (Judy), Muriel Quinlan (Sam), Melita Boyd (Lorne) and predeceased by Harvey and George Wells. He will also be missed by his sister and brother in-law Jean and Glenn Pennell, and brother in law Peter Murphy, His many nieces and nephews and their families will miss Uncle Jim.

Jim came to Ontario at the age of 19 after working in a logging camp with his brother in Newfoundland. He would soon find a job at Dominion Cellulous in 1964 and while the company would change hands from Facelle, Proctor and Gamble and finally to Irving Tissue, Jim would remain a constant at the Weston Road plant for 37 years, retiring in 2001. Jim spent much of his retirement on many wood working projects and enjoyed watching sports (mainly hockey and baseball). Jim could often be found in his very neat garage, which he took a lot of pride in, but not to be out done by the love of his perfectly well-kept lawn. Spending much of his time outside in the garage, he regularly entertained many neighbors, friends and passersby and was well-known as the “Neighbourhood watch”.

Honouring Jim’s wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Dear Sharon, I wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. I didn't have the chance to interact with Jim very often, but when I did I had a good time. I remember sharing a few hours at Martin's house while all the "ladies" were at one of the showers. We chatted and he had some good stories. Take Care. Phillip & Leisa Lewis
